It is separated from the Gulf of Mexico by the Santa Rosa Sound which is a 37.5 mile long stretch of waterway that is part of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. This waterway connects Choctawhatchee Bay to Pensacola Bay.
Another beautiful area along the Emerald Coast is Navarre Beach, which is also well-known for it's emerald green Gulf waters and white sand beaches. It is commonly referred to as Florida’s best kept secret. This quaint little stretch of beach is a community centered city full of friendly locals and natural beauty. There are plenty of top notch condos and hotels for lodging, as well as an abundance of mouthwatering restaurants. The area boasts a top rated school system, high quality healthcare options, and great residential housing options.
As you head east of the Destin - Fort Walton area, you will find Miramar Beach, which has the feel of a historic beach town. The scenic drive along the Gulf of Mexico gives way to beautiful beachfront homes, shopping, and, of course, plenty of great restaurants. Although you may experience that nostalgic feeling along the beaches of South Walton County, you are never far from the high class condos, hotels, resorts, and the shopping at the world’s largest designer factory outlet, Silver Sands Factory Outlets.
Just east of Miramar Beach, is Santa Rosa Beach, an upscale community full of lavish resorts, condos, high class dining, and plenty of pampering at local spas. Grab a little culture here and see the Caribbean-style artist colony or check out some of the breath-taking nature trails. This South Walton County beach town also boasts the beautiful Emerald Green water and snow white sands for which the Emerald Coast of Florida is so famous.
